19. Perfect Day

I’m glad I spent it with you. During the next few days, Nook and I spent as much time together as we could, well, get away with.  Yes, the complications were still there, and that was something we were both very aware of, but at the same time we knew we’d begun something which needed further exploration.

Even though Nook should have been undergoing preparations for her upcoming wedding, she spent as much time as she could with me in the suite.

Mostly we talked, laughed, shared stories of our lives, experiences, and so on.

We ordered room service (repeatedly) and even watched Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (Aka Amélie) together.  Nook had Moët & Chandon for the first time in her life (it turns out, she rather liked it, and yes, I kept the cork (pictured below)).

There was no pressure, no expectations, just an opportunity for the two of us to catch up, in person, on the events that made us the people we now were.  There were so many similarities, things we could both understand in the other, identify with, empathise with...

At the end of one of our days together, Nook thanked me for giving her a truly perfect day.  One of the best she’d ever had in her life, she said.

Nook and I have always been able to communicate with each other.  The tens of thousands of emails between us makes that point clear...but this perfect day was more than that.  It helped Nook see, clearly, what, and who, was before her.

The coming decisions she would have to make would be impossibly difficult; but she knew from our time together what a life with me would entail with respect to our sharing, and maybe, just maybe, that helped her through that decision making process.

There were a lot of fantabulous moments during those days together, but also a lot of difficult ones.  There was no getting away from the reality of the situation we were both in, and we were not trying to deny that reality.  We enjoyed what we could, for what it meant, and knew that in time we’d have to face the more difficult moments.

Until then, we shared some truly perfect moments together.

If you don’t know the song “Perfect Day” by Lou Reed, here are the lyrics:

Lou Reed

Transformer (1972)

Perfect Day

Just A Perfect Day,

Drink Sangria In The Park,

And Then Later, When It Gets Dark,

We Go Home.

Just A Perfect Day,

Feed Animals In The Zoo

Then Later, A Movie, Too,

And Then Home.

Oh It's Such A Perfect Day,

I'm Glad I Spent It With You.

Oh Such A Perfect Day,

You Just Keep Me Hanging On,

You Just Keep Me Hanging On.

Just A Perfect Day,

Problems All Left Alone,

Weekenders On Our Own.

It's Such Fun.

Just A Perfect Day,

You Made Me Forget Myself.

I Thought I Was Someone Else,

Someone Good.

Oh It's Such A Perfect Day,

I'm Glad I Spent It With You.

Oh Such A Perfect Day,

You Just Keep Me Hanging On,

You Just Keep Me Hanging On.

You're Going To Reap Just What You Sow,

You're Going To Reap Just What You Sow,

You're Going To Reap Just What You Sow,

You're Going To Reap Just What You Sow...
